Ingredients

3 Eggs

3 tablespoons of Oil

2 tablespoons of Water

½ teaspoon of Vanilla

2 ½ cups of Flour

¼ teaspoon of Salt

¼ teaspoon of Ground ginger

1 teaspoon of Baking powder

1 pound of Honey

½ cup of Sugar

½ teaspoon of Ground ginger

1 Orange peel

1 cup of Toasted hazelnuts

½ cup of Candied cherries

Preparation

Step 1 : The first step is to preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2 : In a large bowl, mix the eggs, oil, water, and vanilla, and beat until well combined and frothy.

Step 3 : In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, ginger, and baking powder.

Step 4 : Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing with a fork until a uniform and smooth dough forms.

Step 5 : Then, knead for a few minutes until a homogeneous texture is achieved.

Step 6 : It is recommended to cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for ten minutes.

Step 7 : After resting, small portions of dough are rolled with hands into long snakes approximately half a centimeter thick.

Step 8 : These snakes are cut into pieces about 0.8 centimeters (one-third of an inch), shaped into small balls, and placed on baking trays, ensuring they aren’t greasy.

Step 9 : Bake the balls for about 20 to 22 minutes, or until they turn golden and have a crispy texture.

Step 10 : Meanwhile, in a pot, combine honey, sugar, ginger, and orange peel, and bring to a gentle boil.

Step 11 : Allow this mixture to cook for exactly 10 minutes to create an aromatic syrup.

Step 12 : Once ready, add the baked balls, along with nuts and raisins or cherries, to the hot honey.

Step 13 : Mix well with a wooden spoon so that all ingredients are coated with the honey.

Step 14 : Finally, serve by placing the balls on a cake plate or small molds, arranged in a pyramid or whichever pattern you prefer, to enjoy their traditional and comforting flavor.
