Traditional Jalah Bread
Ingredients
4 cups of Flour
4 ounces of Warm water
2 ounces of Active dry yeast
3 ounces of Oil
2 Eggs
½ cup of Sugar
1 tablespoon of Salt
1 Beaten egg
Dough flour
Preparation
Step 1 : In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, eggs, and oil, and mix gently until the ingredients are completely dissolved.
Step 2 : Next, add the sugar and salt to the same bowl, mixing well to incorporate these liquid ingredients.
Step 3 : Gradually, add three cups of flour, using a wooden spoon or spatula, until a sticky dough forms.
Step 4 : If necessary, add additional flour so the dough is not too sticky.
Step 5 : Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead with your hands for about ten minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Step 6 : Form a ball with the dough, place it in a clean, large bowl, and cover with plastic wrap to rest and ferment for about 20 minutes, activating the yeast.
Step 7 : After this time, divide the dough into three, four, or six equal parts, depending on the size of the braid you want to make.
Step 8 : Stretch each portion into long, even shapes.
Step 9 : Carefully, braid each section, joining the ends in the center and stretching the ends to achieve a uniform shape.
Step 10 : Place these braids on a baking sheet and cover again with plastic wrap, letting them rise for one to two hours, until they increase in size.
Step 11 : Before baking, preheat the oven to 350°C.
Step 12 : While heating, brush the surface of the braids with beaten egg and, if desired, sprinkle with seeds or spices for a special touch.
Step 13 : When the oven is ready, bake the braids for about 20 minutes, or until they turn a shiny golden color.
Step 14 : Finally, let them cool slightly before enjoying, savoring this special moment of sharing an artisanal and delicious bread.
